Climate and Storm History in Cape Coral, Florida

          Cape Coral Florida is one of the largest cities in Florida, has a subtropical climate where the area experiences an average of 355 days of sunshine but also undergoes precipitation on 145 days in a year. In this city, during the season of summer, the weather is very warm, tropical and drizzly however, on winter seasons the city of Cape Coral experiences dry and balanced temperature. With the majority of the rainy seasons on the months May to September, the city receives an average of 54 inches of rain. In summer months which begin on the 1st day of June till the last day of November, heavy but brief rains are experienced also in these months the city of Cape Coral is going through the annual hurricane seasons.

       The one of the earliest named hurricane in Cape Coral was hurricane Galveston. On the early evening of September 1900, the hurricane came onto land at Galveston with a great storm gush. In a few hours of time, a lot of the city’s property was greatly damaged and 6000 lives were taken.

       On the August of 2004, Hurricane Charley devastated the Cape Coral city, where it lasted for 6 tragic days and at its ultimate intensity it attained a 150 mph (240 Km/h) winds, claiming the 4th category in the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Scale. At a maximum strength, Hurricane Charley made a landfall in the cities of south western Florida making this the most powerful storm that hit United States.

       On the year 1960, one massive hurricane hit the south western Florida, Hurricane Donna with a $26.8 Billion cost of damages. Due to the heavy rains and great hurricane, rainfall measures up to 10 inches (250mm). Losing a vast track of mangrove forest in the Everglades Park, also a total of 35% of the white heron’s population lost their lives. The state lost a sum of 35% of the grapefruit crops, 10% of the oranges and tangerines were wrecked, and most of the avocado crops were destroyed.
      On the August 2008, hurricane Fay had a landfall in south west Florida where a few people died and a lot of property destroyed. Hurricane Fay brought 60 mph (97 Km/h) wind with a great amount of rain waters that gave the state a 5 feet (1.5 m) deep waters, also the hurricane take along with it flooded rivers and tornadoes.  Tornadoes hit the state, which destroy a lot of houses and properties; also a total of 8000 homes were flooded. A sum of 8 -10 people were killed in the tragic visit of hurricane Fay in the whole state of Florida.
      Hurricane Andrew hitting on 1992 was one of the biggest, massive and enormous hurricanes that hit the State of Florida after the Labor Day Hurricane last 1935 and Hurricane Camille in 1969. South Florida who was struck with the category 5 and had the greatest amount of damages, the total cost of damages in the whole United States was $26.5 Billion. According to research, the worst damages from Hurricane Andrew were not from straight line winds but from vortices or miniwhirls.

       A lot of cost of damages, many destroyed properties, and massive loss of lives all over the state of Florida; these hurricanes destroyed many hopes and bring out all the best of the people in the community.
