Cape Coral, Florida (General information)


Cape Coral is a large municipality located in Lee County, Florida, United States.  It was found on 1957 by real estate developers Leonard and Jack Rosen, and was incorporated on 1970. It is located at 26°38′23″N 81°58′57″W. According to the United States Census Bureau, Cape Coral City, Florida has a total area of 120 square miles (310.8 km2), making second largest city Florida, Jacksonville being the first in terms of area. In Cape Coral, a total of 110.09 square miles (285.1 km2) are land while 9.91 square miles (25.7 km2) of it (9%) is water.

Cape Coral is a large peninsula which is bordered in the south and east by the Caloosahatchee River and in the west of Matlacha Pass. Fort Myers is a city that lies across the Caloosahatchee River to the south and Matlacha and Pine Island lies across Matlacha Pass to the west. Matlache Pass is home to Matlacha Pass National Wildlife Refuge and the state's Matlacha Pass Aquatic Preserve.


The City, Cape Coral has the largest canals in the whole world that can sum up to 400 miles (640 Km). Most canals are navigable and some have access to the Gulf of Mexico. Cape Coral’s canals are very extensive that the local ecology and tides are affected.

Cape Coral has the Subtropical Climate, according to The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration who classified the Cape Coral’s Climate. Cape Coral has the average of 355 days of sunshine each year but experiences precipitation for about 145 days per year. While the summer in Cape Coral is very warm, humid and sometimes rainy, their winter seasons are very dry with moderate temperature.  Cape Coral experience rainy seasons during the months; May to September where the City of Cape Coral receives about 54 inches of rain each year. However, when the city experience the summer months, afternoon rains are heavy but brief.


Between Tampa and Miami, Cape Coral is the most populous city. Cape Coral is the 9th largest city in the state of Florida on population and 3rd on Geographical Land area as of year 2009. A total of 60% of the population of residents on Cape Coral are from ages 15-65 and residents who are above 65 are outnumbered by the ages under 25 who are residents. Residents who reside at Southwest Florida and in the age group 18-24 grow faster in rate than the Florida and United States. The city of Cape Coral, Florida has racial makeup where is composed of; a total of 88% of White, 3.7% are African American, 0.3% were Native Americans, 1.3% are Asian or Pacific Islander and a percentage of 4.1% were other different races. The Estimate sum of population in the following years up to 2014, there will be a total of 203,500 people, 80,598 Household and 58,060 families residing Cape Coral, Florida.


Economy in the City of Cape Coral is based on different features, and these are; Real Estate/Constructions, Retails, Services from Local Governments, and Health care. Promotion and Incentivizing of business that are to be relocated to Cape Coral are done by the City’s Economic Development Office. Top 5 Employers in the City of Cape Coral during the year 2009 were; Lee County School District, Public Markets, Cape Coral Hospital,  Cape Coral City Hall and Walmart. Like most of the communities in the state of Florida, Real estate also boomed in the 2000s. According to RealTrac, from April 23rd in the year 2009, the City is listed 3rd out of 25 on the highest Foreclosure Cities in United States.


The city of Cape Coral, Florida has different kinds of ups and downs but still, it is a good community, where people are nice and live harmoniously. Sometimes it takes a big step back or downs just for the Cities to move forward.
